Casting technologist EFZ - permanent moulds

Casting technologist is a very modern and technically versatile profession. You work with customers, engineers, designers and polymechanics to develop die-cast components and then the corresponding casting technologies for the die-casting and punching moulds. Once the die-casting mould has been built, you create the casting concept, programme the automated casting cells and carry out the sampling and set-up of the series process. You control the entire process sequence and also take responsibility for the quality of the components. You will also use your expertise to further develop the casting technologies, carry out development tests and optimise the processes of the machines and systems. In die casting, we mainly process aluminium and magnesium alloys, which is why you will also learn about the metallurgical properties of these materials. As a casting technologist, you will also be familiar with the processes of work preparation, preparation of production orders and will be responsible for production data acquisition through to post-calculation of orders. Compliance with occupational health and safety as well as the implementation of standards and customer requirements are also part of your area of responsibility.

Training at Aluwag AG

We use the metallic material aluminium. You will process the aluminium using die casting machines with a clamping force of between 400 and 2,200 tonnes. The liquid melt is pressed at high speed into a steel mould, where it solidifies. Our steel moulds are permanent moulds that can be reused. This means that new moulds do not have to be made for the same castings every time.

In addition to the apprenticeship at Aluwag AG

You will start your apprenticeship with a one-week introductory course at Bühler AG in Uzwil. The second part of the introductory course will be completed at Bühler AG one month after the start of the apprenticeship. During these two introductory courses, you will familiarise yourself with the various casting processes and receive instruction in first aid and occupational safety. You will also complete a Suva-recognised sickness course. In addition to the training at Aluwag AG, you will complete two internships (approx. 20 days each) in other foundries and in internal toolmaking. This will allow you to familiarise yourself with other casting processes and other foundries. This will also give you the opportunity to familiarise yourself with new and different work steps and views.
